"Preacher and Miss Princie" (detail)

Tom worked for the railroad for 25 years and then for the farm for 35 taking wonderful care of all the horses. He even took care of Yo Yo for a while before he retired. His eggs were the tastiest and he always raised a steer out back to feed his family. There were always a mix of dogs, some friendly and some not, but this one was special. His wife had died that year and this was her favorite dog, Miss Princie. Never without a cigarette in his hand, they are sitting on his front porch on a warm morning enjoying each other's company and reminiscing. Miss Princie's eyes have a blue cast because she had been blind all her life. Tom lived to be 91 and had over 70 children, grandchildren, great-grandlchildren and a couple of great-great- grandchildren combined at the time of this painting.
