"Marble House" (detail)

Marble House in Newport RI is one of the great mansions of the Vanderbilt family. It is maintained by the Historical Society and often is the background for unusual occasions. This year the Carriage Association of America had their annual convention here for the weekend with horses being housed in the original stables, and daily outings planned all over the island. This was a luncheon on the terrace at Marble House and carriages and guests are arriving as they may a hundred years ago.
