This painting is unique for many reasons. We are actually standing on a very old railroad bed predating the Civil War. Both General Lee and General Sherman used this line during the last months of the war. The chimneys you see in the background are from the plantation house that once stood in this cotton country of the south. The tracks are gone and the house as well now.
